創世記 5章
1 これはアダムの歴史の記録である。神は、人を創造したとき、神の似姿として人を造り、
2 男と女に彼らを創造された。彼らが創造された日に、神は彼らを祝福して、彼らの名を「人」と呼ばれた。
3 アダムは百三十年生きて、彼の似姿として、彼のかたちに男の子を生んだ。彼はその子をセツと名づけた。
4 セツを生んでからのアダムの生涯は八百年で、彼は息子たち、娘たちを生んだ。

ルカの福音書 3章

創世記 5章:アダムの系譜
系譜は聖書でも重要です。 創世記5章全体がアダムの系譜です（これはアダムの歴史の記録である。1節）。 私たちは先週の日曜日、アダムとイブの最初の 2 人の息子がカインとアベルであることを知りました。 ところが、アベルがカインに殺され、カインはこの罪のために追い出されました。 それで、神は彼らに別の息子を与え、彼の名前はセツでした。 神様が彼に新しい息子を与えたのはアダムが130歳の時でした（3節)。 アダムとイブは彼をセツと名付けました。 アダムは長生きしました。 セツが生まれた後、アダムはさらに800年を過ごしました。 彼とイブにはもっと多くの息子と娘がいました（4 節）。 ところが、どういうわけか聖書にはセツの名前だけが系譜に記録されています。 それでアダムの家系はセツを通じて流れています。 アダムは930歳でこの世を去りました（5節）。
創世記第5章の残りの部分は、次のような子孫を示しています:
- セツが105歳になった時、息子を産んで名前をエノシュと付け、以後セツは807年をさらに生き、息子と娘をさらに産みました。 セツは 912 歳で亡くなりました。
- エノシュは905歳で亡くなりました。
- ケナンは910歳の時に亡くなりました。
- マハラルエルは895年を住みました。
- ヤレデが亡くなったとき、彼の年齢は 962 歳でした。
- 次はヤレデの息子エノクです。 エノクは独特の人物でした。 聖書に「エノクは神とともに歩んだ。神が彼を取られたので、彼はいなくなった。」(24節)と書かれています。 エノクは死を見ることができず、神によってこの世を去りました。
- エノクの息子はメトシェラとして969年を暮しましたが、人類史上最高齢者です。
- メトシェラの息子はラメック(?)ですが、ラメックは777年を生きていました。
- ラメックには息子が一人いましたが、彼の名前はノアでした。
それでアダムからノアまで、10世代がいました。 この系譜で目につく点は、人々が長生きしたことです！ メトシェラはほぼ 1、000 年を過ごしました。 だから現代人はこれを受け入れるのが難しいです。 しかし、私はこの系譜のすべての数字が事実であると信じています。 なぜなら、これはノアの洪水(創世記6-9節)以前だったからです。 私は洪水以前の地球環境が洪水後のものよりもはるかに良かったと信じています。 私は、地球全体が穏やかな気候（例えば、寒すぎず暑くもない）を享受したと思います。 これが、系譜上のすべての人々の寿命が非常に長い理由の 1 つかもしれません。
しかし、この系譜で本当に目立つのは、彼らの寿命ではなく、別のものです。 何でしょうか？ まず、創世記3章15節に戻らなければなりません。
創世記3章15節 – プロトエヴァンゲリウム
「わたしは敵意を、おまえと女の間に、おまえの子孫と女の子孫の間に置く。彼はおまえの頭を打ち、おまえは彼のかかとを打つ。」（創世記3:15）
創世記3章15節は神が蛇(サタン)に言った言葉の一部です。 ここで神様が初めてサタンと彼の国を滅ぼす人を送ると約束されたので、これを初めての福音または円形福音と呼びます。 神様が救援者をくださるでしょうし、女性の子孫として来られるでしょう。
- 「わたしは敵意を、おまえと女の間に、おまえの子孫と女の子孫の間に置く。」「彼女の子孫」はイエス·キリストを指しています。 神は、サタンとキリストの間に敵意（敵対と憎しみ）があるだろうと警告しました。 それでキリストが来たら、
- 「彼はおまえの頭を打ち、おまえは彼のかかとを打つ。」 これはサタンが女性の子孫にできるすべてのことが彼のかかとを傷つけることであり、サタンは決してキリストに致命的な打撃を与えることはできないということを意味します。イスカリオテのユダ、パリサイ人、ローマ兵は共謀してイエスを十字架につけましたが、それで話が終わったわけではありません。 イエスが墓から立ち上がりました！ 最後の勝利はサタンのものではなく、イエスのものでした。 それで神様は、サタンがイエスを攻撃するだろうが、決して勝てないだろうとおっしゃるのです。 しかし、イエス·キリストはサタンの頭を踏みにじるでしょう。 これは、キリストの十字架の力がサタンと彼の帝国全体を永遠に破壊することを意味します。
それで、このプロトエヴァンゲリウムで神様がおっしゃっています: このすべてのことは、私が人間として(1)と(2)アダムの家系を通じて送るこのメシアによって行われます。
今、再びアダムの家系図が発展した姿を見てください（創世記5）。 神様が初めての福音の約束を忠実に守ったことが分かります。 彼はメシアの家系としてアダムの後にセツを選びました。そしてアダムからノアに至るまで10世代ありました。
ルカの福音書3: イエスの系譜
聖書は系譜を真剣に受け止めていると先に述べました。 新約聖書の中のルカの福音書の中にイエス·キリストの系譜があります:
Luke 3:23 イエスは、働きを始められたとき、およそ三十歳で、ヨセフの子と考えられていた。ヨセフはエリの子で、さかのぼると、
創世記5章で見たアダムの系譜とは違い、この系譜はイエスから出発して再び上がるのです。 それで、福音書の3章を読み続けていると、章が終わる頃に、
Luke 3:37 メトシェラ、エノク、ヤレデ、マハラルエル、ケナン、38 エノシュ、セツ、アダム、そして神に至る。
37~38節で分かるように、誰が見てもイエスの系譜がノアに、再びアダムに、最後に神にさかのぼるということを示しています。 しかし、イエスが夫のヨセフではなく、聖霊の能力で生まれたため、イエスがアダムの種をもらったという意味ではありません。 そうして神様がアダムの系譜、特にセツの系譜を利用してイエスをこの世に送ったにもかかわらず、イエスが直接アダムの種を受け取ったわけではありません。 むしろ、この系譜が今日私たちに見せてくれるのは、神様が創世記3章15節の最初の福音で約束されたようにイエスを人として送ったということです。
Closing
今日、短い説教を終えてローマで5章17~21節を一緒に読んでみるように招待しようと思います。
17 もし一人の違反により、一人によって死が支配するようになったのなら、なおさらのこと、恵みと義の賜物をあふれるばかり受けている人たちは、一人の人イエス・キリストにより、いのちにあって支配するようになるのです。18 こういうわけで、ちょうど一人の違反によってすべての人が不義に定められたのと同様に、一人の義の行為によってすべての人が義と認められ、いのちを与えられます。19 すなわち、ちょうど一人の人の不従順によって多くの人が罪人とされたのと同様に、一人の従順によって多くの人が義人とされるのです。20 律法が入って来たのは、違反が増し加わるためでした。しかし、罪の増し加わるところに、恵みも満ちあふれました。21 それは、罪が死によって支配したように、恵みもまた義によって支配して、私たちの主イエス・キリストにより永遠のいのちに導くためなのです。
アダムとイブが栄光のオリジナルの状態から退いた後、神様はすでに創世記3章15節に救援の計画を宣布し、息子イエス·キリストを女性の子孫に送り約束を忠実に守りました。 キリストが来られ、彼の完全な従順で私たちは神の前に義とされたのです。
神様は息子イエス·キリストの中で、そしてその中で救いの恩恵を施します。 これは私たち罪人たちにどんな意味があるでしょうか？ 私たち罪人たちはキリストに駆けつけ、その中とその下に隠れていろという意味です。 私たち罪人たちはその義理堅い服を着て神様の家に子供として入りなさいという意味です。

Genesis 5 (ESV)

When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created. 3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. 4 The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters. 5 Thus all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.

23 Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli . . . 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, 38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
Introduction
When I was in Azerbaijan, once I had to renew my driver’s license. So, I went to a city office to do it. I submitted all the documents. All you needed to do after that was just wait outside. Once your license was ready, they would call your last name for you to come inside the building to pick it up. So, I was waiting for my name to be called. I was waiting with some 20 other Azerbaijani men. And the office began to call people’s last names: “Husseinov!” “Yes, here”; “Eliyev!” “Here”; “Muradova,” “Abdullaev” . . . And when the officer loudly called “Lee,” everybody turned and looked at me! Yes, I was the only Asian man there, and my last name was the shortest. It was obvious.
Lee is my family name, one of the most common Korean last names. People sometimes ask me why there are so many Lees, Kims, and Parks in Korea. Did you know that about 45 percent of Koreans have one of these three names? That’s crazy. That’s why in Korea women do not change their last names even after marriage because it doesn’t mean anything. So, why are there so many common last names, especially these three (Lee, Kim, Park)? There are a few theories. But I think this one is probably the best one: These three last names (Kim, Lee, and Park) were prestigious last names in the old days. Kim and Park were the last names of the unified Silla dynasty (eighth–tenth centuries AD). Lee was the last name of Chosun royalty (fourteenth–nineteenth centuries AD). During the Korean war (1950–1953), however, the entire society was collapsing, and during this social chaos, many families adopted these prestigious last names. Although my father always told me that we’re really from a prestigious family line (Lee), I always had certain suspicion about it. But sometimes, I do wonder about my ancestors. Who were they? What was my grand-grand-grand-grandfather like? Many people seem to care about their family line (genealogy). Why? (1) because we want to know where we belong; and (2) because your genealogy shows your root, your origin, the beginning of your clan.
Genesis 5: Adam’s Genealogy
Genealogies are important in the Bible, too. The entire chapter of Genesis 5 is Adam’s genealogy (“This is the book of the generations of Adam,” v. 1). We learned last Sunday that Adam and Eve’s first two sons were Cain and Abel. But Abel was murdered by Cain, and Cain was expelled because of this crime. So, God gave them another son, and his name was Seth (セツ). It was when Adam was 130 years old when God gave him a new son (v. 3). Adam and Eve named him Seth (セツ). Adam lived a long life. After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 more years. He and Eve had many more sons and daughters (v. 4). But somehow the Bible only records the name of Seth in the genealogy. So, Adam’s family line is flowing down through Seth. Adam died at the age of 930 (v. 5).
The rest of Genesis 5 shows the following descendants:
- When Seth (セツ) was 105 years old, he had a son and named him Enosh (エノシュ); after this, Seth lived 807 more years and had many more sons and daughters. Seth died at the age of 912.
- Enosh died at the age of 905.
- Kenan (ケナン) died when he was 910 years old.
- Mahalalel (マハラルエル) lived 895 years.
- Jared (ヤレデ) was 962 years old when he died.
- The next was Enoch (エノク), a son of Jared. Enoch was a unique figure. The Bible says, “Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him” (v. 24); Enoch was taken from this world by God without seeing death.
- Enoch’s son was Methuselah (メトシェラ) who lived 969 years, the oldest man on record in human history.
- Then Methuselah’s son was Lamech, who lived 777 years.
- Lamech had a son, and his name was Noah.
So, from Adam to Noah, there were 10 generations. What is striking about this genealogy is that people lived a long life! Methuselah lived almost 1,000 years. That’s why modern people find it difficult to accept this. But I believe that all the numbers in this genealogy are true because this was before the Flood of Noah (Genesis 6–9). I believe that the environment on Planet Earth before the Flood was much better than what followed the Deluge. I suspect that the whole earth enjoyed a moderate climate (e.g., neither too cold nor too hot). This might be one of the reasons why the lifespan of all the people in the genealogy was so lengthy.
But what’s really striking about this genealogy is not their lifespan but something else. What would it be? We first need to return to Genesis 3:15.
Genesis 3:15 – the protoevangelium
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15)
Genesis 3:15 is part of what God said to the serpent (Satan). This is called the first gospel or the protoevangelium because here God promises, for the first time, that he will send someone to destroy Satan and his kingdom—God will provide a Savior, and he will come as the offspring of the woman.
- “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring”:“Her offspring” points to Jesus Christ. And God warned that there would be enmity (hostility and hatred) between Satan and Christ. So, when Christ comes,
- “He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel”: This means that all that Satan can do to the offspring of the woman is hurting his heel; Satan will never be able to strike a lethal blow to Christ. Although Judas Iscariot, the Pharisees, and the Roman soldiers conspired together and crucified Jesus, it was not the end of the story. Jesus rose from the grave! The final victory belonged to Jesus, not to Satan. So, God is saying that Satan would attack Jesus, but he would never prevail. But Jesus Christ will crush the head of Satan. This means that the power of the cross of Christ will destroy Satan and his whole empire forever.
So, in this protoevangelium, God is saying: All this will be done by this Messiah whom I will send (1) as a human being and (2) through the family line of Adam.
Now, look at the development of Adam’s family line again (Genesis 5). We can see that God faithfully kept his promise of the first gospel; he chose Seth after Adam as the family line for the Messiah. And there were 10 generations from Adam all the way to Noah.
Luke 3: Jesus’ Genealogy
I said earlier the Bible takes genealogies seriously. In the New Testament, in the Gospel of Luke, there is a genealogy of Jesus Christ:
23 Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, 25the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, . . . (Luke 3)
As we see, unlike the genealogy of Adam we saw in Genesis 5, this one is starting from Jesus and moving back up. So, if you keep reading Luke 3, around the end of the chapter, we read,
36b . . . the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan (Kenan), 38 the son of Enos (Enosh), the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
As is clear in vv. 37–38, Luke demonstrates that the family line of Jesus is going all the way back up to Noah, and then to Adam, and finally to God. It doesn’t mean, however, that Jesus received the seed of Adam because Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, not by her husband Joseph. Thus, although God used the family line of Adam—especially the line of Seth—to send Jesus to this world, Jesus did not directly receive Adam’s seed. Rather, what this genealogy shows us today is that God sent Jesus as a human being, as the offspring of the woman just like he had promised in the first gospel in Genesis 3:15.
Closing
Closing today’s short sermon, I’d like to invite us to read Romans 5:17–21 together.
17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. 18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
After Adam and Eve fell from their glorious original state, God already proclaimed his salvation plan in Genesis 3:15, and he faithfully kept his promise by sending his Son Jesus Christ as the woman’s offspring. Christ came and, through his perfect obedience, we have been made righteous before God.
God offers his saving grace in and through his Son Jesus Christ. What does this mean to us sinners? It means that we sinners should run to Christ and hide in and under him; we sinners should receive and put on the garment of his righteousness to enter the house of God as his children.
