ヨハネの福音書 19章
28 それから、イエスはすべてのことが完了したのを知ると、聖書が成就するために、「わたしは渇く」と言われた。
29 酸いぶどう酒がいっぱい入った器がそこに置いてあったので、兵士たちは、酸いぶどう酒を含んだ海綿をヒソプの枝に付けて、イエスの口もとに差し出した。
30 イエスは酸いぶどう酒を受けると、「完了した」と言われた。そして、頭を垂れて霊をお渡しになった。
イースターおめでとう？
今週気づいたこと：人々はすでに「ハッピーイースター」と言っていました。それは私を居心地悪くさせました。なぜなら、「ハッピーイースター」の前には何か別のものがあるはずだからです――「聖金曜日」（または「ブラックフライデー」と呼ぶ人もいます）があるはずです。復活の前には死がなければなりません。
棕櫚の主日：イエスはエルサレムに入城されました。
木曜日：イエスは裏切られ、逮捕されました。
金曜日：イエスは午前9時頃に十字架につけられました。
十字架刑は、ローマ帝国が用いた最も残酷な処刑方法の一つでした。それは非常に恐ろしい刑罰であったため、十字架刑は奴隷または外国人にのみ適用され、ローマ市民が十字架につけられることは決してありませんでした。
しかし、罪のない神の御子、私たちの主であり救い主であるイエスが十字架につけられました。
なぜ彼は殺されなければならなかったのか？
なぜイエスは殺されなければならなかったのか？
それは私たちに対する神の救いの計画でした。
2コリント 5:21
神は、罪を知らない方を、私たちのために罪とされました。それは、私たちが、この方にあって、神の義となるためです。
今日の箇所はそれをさらに詳しく示しています。28 それから、イエスはすべてのことが完了したのを知ると、聖書が成就するために、「わたしは渇く」と言われた。
これは十字架刑から約6時間後のことです。彼は一晩中、殴られ、拷問にかけられました。今、彼の両手と両足は十字架に釘付けにされています。イエスはひどく出血しています。自由に呼吸ができません。彼の全身が機能停止に向かっています。彼が経験した肉体的苦痛について考えると、それはただただ驚くべきことであり、衝撃的です。
「渇く」もちろん、間違いありません。彼は喉が渇いています。そして、「そこに酸いぶどう酒の入った器が置いてあったので、彼らは酸いぶどう酒を含ませた海綿をヒソプの枝につけて、彼の口もとに差し出した。30 イエスは酸いぶどう酒を受けると、「完了した」と言い、頭を垂れて息を引き取られた。」
「完了した」（Τετέλεσται）。私は説教でギリシャ語を使うのは好きではありません。しかし、今日だけはそうするべきだと思います。なぜなら、これは非常に重要なフレーズだからです。覚えておくべきことの一つは、このフレーズが完了形であるということです――イエスが「完了した」と言われたとき、それは否定できないほど確定した現在の状態を意味します。「終わったのだ」「完了したのだ」と。
意味１：勝利
例：映画の中で（絶望的な状況で、逃れる望みがない時などに）、「もう終わりだ」と言うことがあります。しかし、「完了した」（Τετέλεσται）は勝利の叫びです。それは、イエスがご自身に与えられた神の使命を完全に成し遂げたという、勝利の宣言なのです。
意味２：私たちの救いの完全な成就
イエスの使命は、身代わりでした。「～のために」「～の代わりに」
私たちの神に対する罪は、神の怒りを引き起こしました。しかし、私たちのだれ一人として、神の正義の前に立つことはできませんでした。神の正義の要求を満たし、私たちの罪を取り除くために、イエス・キリストは私たちの代わりに十字架で死んでくださいました。
野蛮だ？宇宙的な児童虐待だ？しかし、この身代わりの考えは、聖書に深く根ざしています。例：旧約聖書の動物犠牲
ですから、十字架で起こったことは、「キリストは私たちの身代わりに罪の罰を負われた」ということです。「神は、十字架につけられたイエスを、まるでイエスが私の人生を生きたかのように扱い、（そして）私が犯した、あるいはこれから犯すであろうすべての罪のためにイエスを罰せられました。」
ですから、イエスの使命は、神の御前に完全に正しい生涯を送り、罪のための「ただ一度の」いけにえとしてご自身を与えることでした（ヘブル10:12 一つの永遠のいけにえ）。ですから、私たちを罪から救い出すための代価は完全に支払われました。十字架につけられたイエスは、私たちのすべての罪を神の御前から取り除いたので、私たちに対する神の怒りを静められました。ですから、イエスは「完了した」（Τετέλεσται）と言われたのです。
今、どうすればよいのか？
「完了した」（Τετέλεσται）：これは、私たちの救いはキリストにおいてのみ見出されるのであり、他のどこにも、他のだれにも見出されないということです。
ヨハネの福音書 14:6
イエスは彼に言われた。「わたしが道であり、真理であり、いのちです。わたしを通してでなければ、だれも父のもとには来ません。」
聖金曜日、私たちは、イエスが私たちの罪のための究極のいけにえとして、自ら進んで苦しみ、十字架刑で死んでくださったことを覚えます――それは、私たちが神の子どもとなるためです。 「完了した」（Τετέλεσται）：イエスはすべてを支払ってくださいました。イエス・キリストのもとに来て、彼をあなたの主、あなたの救い主としてお迎えください。

John 19:28-30
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Happy Easter?
This week: what I noticed: People were/are already saying “Happy Easter.” It made me uncomfortable. Because there must be something else before “Happy Easter”—there must be “Good Friday” (or some call it “Black Friday”). There must be the death before the resurrection.
Palm Sunday: Jesus entered Jerusalem.
Thursday: He was betrayed and arrested.
Friday: Jesus was crucified around 9 AM.
Crucifixion was one of the cruelest execution methods used by the Roman Empire. It was so horrible a punishment that crucifixion was only applied to slaves or foreigners—Roman citizens were never allowed to be crucified.
But Jesus, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior, who had no sin, was crucified.
WHY WAS HE KILLED?
Why did Jesus have to be killed?
It was God’s salvation plan for us.
2 Cor 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Today’s passage demonstrates it in more detail: 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.”
This is about 6 hours after the crucifixion. He was beaten and tortured all night. Now his hands and feet are nailed to the cross. Jesus has been bleeding so much. He can’t breathe freely. His whole body is shutting down. When you think about the physical pain that he went through, it’s just mind-blowing and shocking.
“I thirst” Of course, no doubt. He’s thirsty. And, “A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.“
“It is finished” (Τετέλεσται). I do not like using Greek in my sermon. But I think I should today because this is such an important phrase. One thing to remember is that this phrase is in the perfect tense-form—it means that when Jesus said, “It is finished,” it means this is an undeniably fixed current state: IT IS DONE. IT IS FINISHED.
Meaning 1: Victory
e.g. In movies (when someone is in despair, there is no hope of escaping or something, they say “It’s over, we’re done”). But “かんりょうした / It is finished” (Τετέλεσται) is the cry of victory. It is Jesus’ triumphant proclamation that he has now fully accomplished the God-given mission that he came to do.
Meaning 2: The Whole Accomplishment of our Salvation
Jesus’ mission was substitution: “in behalf of” / “instead of”
Our sin against God caused the wrath of God. But none of us could stand before the divine justice. In order to satisfy the demands of divine justice and to remove our guilt, Jesus Christ died in our place on the cross.
Barbarian? Cosmic child abuse? But this idea of substitution is so deeply rooted in the Bible. e.g. OT: animal sacrifices
So, what happened at the cross was that “Christ bore the punishment for sin in our place”: “God (1) treated Jesus on the cross as if he had lived my life and (2) punished him for every sin I have ever committed or ever will commit.”
So, Jesus’ mission was to live a perfectly righteous life before God and give himself as a “once-for-all” sacrifice (Heb 10:12 a single sacrifice for sins). So, the price to rescue us from our sins has been paid in full. The crucified Jesus quenched God’s wrath against us because it removed all our sins from the sight of God: So, Jesus said, “かんりょうした / It is finished” (Τετέλεσται).
NOW WHAT?
“かんりょうした / It is finished” (Τετέλεσται): this means that our salvation is only found in Christ, never somewhere or someone else.
John 14:6 I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
On Good Friday, we remember that Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins—so that we may become children of God.
“かんりょうした / It is finished” (Τετέλεσται): Jesus paid it all. Come unto Jesus and embrace him as your Lord and Savior.
