The One True Messiah: Jesus

Allow me to ask you two seemingly unrelated questions: Have you ever seen the face of a “messiah”?; have you ever seen something that combines all three, i.e., Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity? You can answer “yes” to both if you’ve seen the photo I attached above. When I was driving by a mosque yesterday, I … Continue reading The One True Messiah: Jesus

Toronto Pride, Grace, and My Preaching

Peter from the Canadian Tire Auto Service finally phoned around 10 am and said my vehicle was not ready yet. That meant Lynn and I had to travel to Toronto by bus. I was preaching today; so, no matter what, I had to be at church. It was challenging. The bus from home to James … Continue reading Toronto Pride, Grace, and My Preaching

Littleness vs. Greatness of Faith

Matthew 14–15 has a startling juxtaposition of the littleness and greatness of faith. It’s striking because it defies our expectations. When Jesus came to his disciples, walking on the water (Matt 14:22–36), Peter, for some unknown reason, asked Jesus to command him to come on the water. While successful with his first several steps, the … Continue reading Littleness vs. Greatness of Faith

Reflecting on Death

Our neighbor has a dog. Her name is N—I will only use the initial for privacy—and she is a beautiful golden retriever. Yet she’s so old that her death is imminent. As her time rapidly draws near, I see our neighbor’s hearts sink. They are doing everything that they can do to extend N’s stay … Continue reading Reflecting on Death

Bates, Gospel Allegiance (2019)

With all due respect, I find Bates's Gospel Allegiance misleading. His so-called King Jesus gospel movement is a serious challenge to today's church. Please read my book review if you're interested in knowing why I must warn you about his work (Click the bibliographic information below). Matthew W. Bates. Gospel Allegiance: What Faith in Jesus … Continue reading Bates, Gospel Allegiance (2019)

Welcome | ようこそ

The gospel (εὐαγγέλιον) is the good news for us fallen humanity (both Jews and non-Jews) that Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, died in our place for our sins and was raised again, conquering the power of sin and death, so that whoever believes in him will be freely given forgiveness of sins and a right standing with God for them to have eternal life and everlasting joy. Therefore, we are justified (made right with God) by grace alone through faith alone in the finished work of Christ alone.
